BIOGRAPHY

Chiara Coccorese, born in Naples (Italy) in 1982, is graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in her home town. Her art research focus on painting: at the beginning she experimented, in addition to the traditional oil colours, the effects of various materials such as beeswax, paper, plasticine. Gradually photography took the place of painting: the materials research turned into the creation of small scenes that illustrate landscapes or fragments from fantastic tales invented; the colour remained exclusively to describe imaginary skies and atmospheres.

In her current works, small plasticine characters take life in landscapes made of giant fruit, objects in wood, paper, glass and sweets of various kinds. Scenographies in miniature with a painted sky are pictured to capture the precise moment they were constructed for. The moment of their creation is the final objective, intended to eternity; the one and single moment of existence recorded and immortalized in thousands of pixels, where there is neither memory nor future. Like when you can remember only a single image of a dream, an only snapshot left from a world that has existed only for a second and flew away like a thought.

Chiara Coccorese lives and works in Naples and in Oxford.
